Vacation’s Over

Soooo, I might’ve missed a few posts during the past week or so. Why? Vacation! My husband and I love to travel. Sadly, we rarely do, but we have a tradition that has been in play for nearing 10 years. Every year during the week of Thanksgiving, we head out to Las Vegas, Nevada. We do this for several reasons. First, Vegas is a lot less busy during this time. It makes the experience a bit more enjoyable because we don’t have to fight crowds. Second, you can get killer hotel deals during that time. Third, it’s a great way to get revved up for all the eating Thanksgiving brings. There are incredible chefs out there, and we happen to love great food! Fourth, it gives us a breather before the craziness of the holiday season starts.

These Vegas trips are the only time I completely forgo writing and reading. We’re too busy walking around, eating, and gambling for me to read or get in any writing. As sad as I am about this fact, I can say I am as equally thrilled. Not because I don’t enjoy reading and writing, but because when I get home, my head is just a bit clearer. Most vacations I still find time to read or I’m jotting down writing notes, but not in Vegas. Now, I’m itching to get back to it! And boy do I have my hands full.

Because of the vacation, I’m extremely behind on my emails, so those will come first. But afterwards, I’m going to be working on a short story for an anthology. If any of you have followed my reviews for a length of time, you’ll know that D.Z.C. (Zichao Deng) is one author I admire like crazy. Well, I’m doing this anthology with him/her (seems to be a mystery), and I’m beyond ecstatic. To top it all off, Thaddeus White is set to have a story appear in it as well. To say I’m humbled to have a story in an anthology with these amazing authors would be an understatement. There’s no publication date set yet, but as soon as something is confirmed, you’ll hear it here!

After I’ve got the short story in a place I’m happy with, I’ll go back to working on book 2 of Keepers of Arden: The Brothers. Right now, it’s with my editor for the final run-through. I still expect it will be published before the end of December. Formatting and getting everything set up will take some time, but I’m hopeful.

In between those two projects, I’m working on book 3 of Keepers of Arden: The Brothers. While I have a lovely outline done, the writing itself needs tons of work. I originally drafted it about three years ago, and I can honestly say it’s a choppy mess. Book 4 continues to be elusive. I’ve now done four drafts and haven’t loved any of them. Good news is I have a beginning I’m finally happy with, which is at least something to be pleased about.

In the midst of all of those, I’ve started on my first book outside the Keepers of Arden series. It will be a single book, and I expect it to be rather short in comparison to Keepers of Arden. I, surprisingly, find myself happy with its progress. However, I won’t dedicate too much time to it until I finally have direction for the fourth book in Keepers of Arden.

Thursday we’ll be back on schedule with a book review and hopefully my every Monday and Thursday posts will once again be consistent. However, with all the holidays and family gatherings, I might occasionally miss a post.

I wish everyone a wonderful holiday season!
